WORKERS Open Collar Shirt, Cotton Smoky Chambray

WORKERS is an Okayama-based menswear manufacturer. The brand focuses on workwear, trad, and military styles, creating clothing through a thorough exploration of vintage garments. The representative personally researches actual vintage items, visiting the original manufacturers and even existing buildings from the era to study documents, then translates these findings into modern, wearable pieces through precise pattern work.

I have produced long-sleeve open collar shirts in the past for autumn/winter, but felt I hadn't quite mastered them yet. So, I tried again.
First, the shape and pattern. Previously, I had gotten too complex, adding side slits and variations in front and back length. This time, I prioritized ease of wear and kept the hem straight.
Regarding the silhouette: size 15 has a chest width of about 57 cm. The shoulder width is 48 cm—not too dropped, not too narrow. The sleeves are slightly wider to ensure there’s no feeling of constriction.
For the buttonholes, only the top one is horizontal; the rest are vertical.
To allow for wearing it with the top button closed, the neck opening is slightly larger than previous open collar versions.
Correcting patterns is a very understated process of adjusting overall balance. However, the final product "should" have dimensions, specifications, and a silhouette that make you feel like it's just easy to wear.

The material is about 5-ounce smoky chambray—it looks like wool at a glance, but it is 100% cotton.
The colors are applied at the sliver (fiber) stage, with subtle blends of black and white fibers. This gives cotton the look and feel of wool. Since much wool was traditionally dyed at the fiber stage, there is an inherent association between "fiber-dyed" and "wool-like."
The products are one-washed and sun-dried.
