WORKERS Band Collar Shirt
WORKERS is an Okayama-based menswear manufacturer. Focusing on workwear, traditional styles, and military influences, the brand creates garments rooted in thorough research into vintage clothing. The founder personally studies authentic vintage pieces, visits the original manufacturers and existing historical buildings from their era to research documentation, and uses precise pattern-making to translate them into garments that are easy to wear in the modern day.
A semi-standard band collar shirt from WORKERS.
The design is based on what is believed to be a British military band collar shirt. While the original length exceeds 80 cm, WORKERS has adjusted it to approximately 76 cm. It is a "modified" length in the eyes of WORKERS that works well whether tucked in or worn out.
The sleeve and elbow widths have been given a bit of extra room. This "extra room in the sleeve" is just as important as the width of the body to ensure that the shirt doesn't restrict movement when you are active. It also makes the sleeves easier to roll up.
The front features rounded, overlapping edges—a detail from old shirts that, according to one theory, were intended to function as undergarments. (Though that might be a bit unhygienic for an undergarment...) Today, it simply adds a classic touch.
While these have typically been made in 3-ounce class lightweight shirt fabrics like hakeme, poplin, and madras, this version is crafted from a basic 5-ounce oxford cloth. While a 3-ounce shirt can feel a bit cold in midwinter, 5-ounce fabric is perfect for year-round wear. The chambray version is also around 5 ounces. In spring and autumn, you can wear it as an outer layer. In winter, it pairs well with a sweater; since it lacks a collar, it sits very neatly under a crew-neck sweater.

The body has a moderate amount of room for a relaxed fit, but since the length is finished slightly shorter, it works perfectly whether worn tucked in or left out.
