WORKERS Deluxe Railroad Jacket, 12 oz, Grey Back Indigo Herringbone

WORKERS is a menswear manufacturer based in Okayama. Centered on workwear, traditional style, and military clothing, the brand creates garments through exhaustive research into vintage clothing. Its founder personally studies actual vintage garments, visiting the manufacturers of the era in which they were made and even existing buildings to research their records, then translates his findings through meticulous pattern work into pieces that are easy to wear today.

The product number that will ensure I leave no regrets in life: "The super-luxurious chore coat I envision."
This is the indigo herringbone I've recently been having made as a special order. This time, we used a gray-top yarn for the weft (the side visible on the reverse). This gives it an even more subdued color tone in which the herringbone is harder to see. Since we were having it specially made, we made the yarn slightly thicker as well, resulting in 12 ounces.
Only after repeated washing does the herringbone stripe gradually become visible. In terms of how rewarding it is to wear in, this is an even more interesting fabric than denim. (But it is expensive.)

The stitching thread is also slightly thicker than what you see on vintage clothing. To recreate the "sturdy American-made chore coat" I have in mind, the fabric and thread are thicker, heavier, and more robust than the specifications originally seen in vintage garments.
We made all the components anew. If CROWN has a crown, WORKERS has a cat-paw motif for its buttons.
The change buttons were specially made by Button Works. Only Button Works could understand the idea of making the raised paw print resemble CROWN's crown.
The tack buttons were made by YKK, with a hammertone finish, the lettering positioned as far outward as possible, and a central rim.
The back has a printed label incorporating a paw print. An old CROWN advertisement was the design source.
The chest features a woven label made with a cotton base and red cotton thread. Taking inspiration from the distinctive fuzzy labels found on vintage clothing, we made it entirely from cotton.
The design features a chinstrap and three-button cuffs. I debated making the pocket layout all square in a CROWN-like style, but decided to round off the corners only on the chest pocket and add a pen slot. With that, I have no regrets about this luxurious chore coat.
The product has been OW-treated.

You don't often come across a chore coat made with this much care and luxury.

Based on a vintage railroad jacket, this piece thoroughly incorporates WORKERS' ideal vision, right down to the fabric, stitching, and buttons.

The most interesting detail is the custom-made paw-print buttons. I really love how WORKERS pays attention to even these small details.

And what I'm personally looking forward to most is this 12-ounce indigo herringbone fabric.

When new, the pattern is not very prominent, giving it a subdued indigo appearance, but as you wear it in and wash it repeatedly, the herringbone pattern gradually begins to emerge.

I love the fading of ordinary denim, of course, but the changes in a fabric like this offer a different kind of enjoyment.

Rather than having a fully realized appeal from the start, it's a jacket you wear in and complete yourself. It's the kind of jacket you'll want to live with for a long time.

Another great thing about a chore coat is that, despite this level of meticulous construction, it can be naturally incorporated into your everyday wardrobe.

Personally, I like throwing it on casually over a white T-shirt or sweatshirt and pairing it with faded denim or chino trousers.

It looks great with slightly wider military trousers, and pairing it with a shirt or knitwear lets you enjoy a more refined, mature look.

I'm 175 cm and 75 kg, and I'm wearing size 40. It has a comfortable amount of room, with a well-balanced fit that's easy to wear even over a sweatshirt.

I hope you'll wear a jacket like this often, without worrying too much about it.

Each time you wear it, the fabric gradually softens, the color fades, and distinctive wear develops along the seams. I think you'll be surprised by the change when you look back at a photo of it when it was new after several years have passed.

Rather than simply faithfully reproducing vintage garments, it combines admiration for the clothing of that era with the luxurious craftsmanship possible today.
