In 1982, SLIP-ON attracted worldwide attention when Sean Penn wore the checkerboard pattern in “Fast Time At Ridgemont High,”making it a model that marked a turning point in VANS’s growth.
This attention-grabbing event led the “checkerboard pattern” to become one of the designs synonymous with VANS.

Since its introduction in 1979, it has gained the support of skaters and BMX riders and become hugely popular, especially in Southern California.

This is a classic model I’ve worn in several colors, but whenever a different material like this comes out, I find myself wanting another pair.

The pig suede in particular has an excellent look and feel. It has a calmness that is distinct from the usual canvas material, and I like how it looks somehow refined despite being a sneaker.

The Mossy Olive color is also perfectly balanced. It isn’t too flashy, but it isn’t too ordinary either. It blends naturally with the pants I wear often, such as denim, military trousers, and chinos.

Personally, I like pairing it with slightly wider pants while keeping the feet looking clean and streamlined. I’d like to wear it casually with my usual American casual styles, such as sweatshirts, flannel shirts, and work jackets.

Above all, the appeal of slip-ons is how easy they are to wear. Whether I’m heading out for a quick trip or walking around all day on the weekend, I find myself reaching for them without even thinking.

I’ve been wearing VANS since I was young, but now that I’m older, materials with this slightly more subdued texture feel particularly right to me.

Because it’s a classic, enjoy the differences in materials and colors.

I highly recommend this pair even to those who already own several pairs of VANS.
