About the brand and product
SUGAR CANE. This quintessentially American brand, whose name means "sugarcane," was the first postwar Japanese clothing manufacturer created for the U.S. market. The parent company of Sugar Cane, TOYO ENTERPRISE COMPANY LTD., was established in 1965 at the time of the full-scale U.S. military intervention in the Vietnam War, catering to those associated with U.S. military bases in Japan. Initially, the company manufactured clothing for the U.S. military while also acting as a distributor of U.S. military surplus within Japan; after the Vietnam War ended in 1975, it transitioned into a full-fledged domestic clothing manufacturer. It was at this time that the name "SUGARCANE" was bestowed upon the brand by an officer stationed at a U.S. military base. Although Sugar Cane was born in Japan, having grown up serving U.S. military bases, both its spirit and its manufacturing know-how were acquired in America. From that time to the present, it has continued to produce authentic workwear centered on denim, the quintessential symbol of American style.
A short-sleeved work shirt with dual chest pockets, crafted from a substantial, thick-gauge 20/1 ombre check rayon fabric.
The hem features gussets and chain-stitch runoff (kara-kan) detailing.
While retaining the characteristic drape of rayon, it features added thickness and weight, resulting in a firm, voluminous texture.
