SUGAR CANE SC28652 COKE STRIPE WORK SHIRT

SUGAR CANE. With a name that means "sugarcane," this quintessentially American-sounding brand is actually the first clothing manufacturer in Japan established after the war specifically for the U.S. market.

TOYO ENTERPRISE COMPANY LTD., the creator of Sugar Cane, was established in 1965 to serve personnel at U.S. military bases in Japan, coinciding with the full-scale U.S. military intervention in the Vietnam War.

Initially, the company manufactured clothing for the U.S. military while also acting as a distributor for surplus U.S. military goods within Japan. When the Vietnam War ended in 1975, the company transitioned into a full-fledged domestic apparel manufacturer. It was at this time that it was named "SUGARCANE" by an officer stationed at a U.S. military base.

Although Sugar Cane was born in Japan, its spirit and manufacturing know-how were forged in America, having grown up serving U.S. military bases. From that time to the present, they have continued to produce authentic workwear, focusing on denim—a symbol of American style.

This is a reproduction of a "Coke Stripe" work shirt used as a uniform by major American beverage companies in the 1950s and 60s. It features a tough fabric capable of withstanding the transport of heavy bottles. Sugar Cane analyzed deadstock (vintage items discovered in brand-new condition) in their possession to weave this herringbone twill fabric using vintage shuttle looms.

The clean design, featuring a collar without a band and a placket-less front, pairs perfectly with the striped pattern. The top of the left chest pocket flap is equipped with a slot for pens, and an additional pen pocket is placed inside the pocket. The back yoke and cuff tapers are finished with gathers rather than tucks. The side slits are reinforced with selvage-edged fabric for added durability.

This is a highly popular Coke stripe shirt; the green color is rare and looks fantastic, giving the model a great atmosphere.

It goes perfectly with denim or chino pants, and looks great layered under a denim jacket or coverall.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how it changes with age through wear, so I highly recommend wearing and breaking it in over many years.
