About the Brand and Product

SUGAR CANE SC02917 Studded Belt “SUGAR CANE”
SUGAR CANE. With a distinctly American name meaning “sugar cane,” this brand was the first postwar clothing manufacturer in Japan to serve the U.S. market.
TOYO ENTERPRISE COMPANY LTD., the parent company behind SUGAR CANE, was established in 1965 to serve personnel connected with U.S. military bases in Japan, as the U.S. military began its full-scale involvement in the Vietnam War.
Initially, alongside manufacturing clothing for the U.S. military, the company also served as a domestic distribution channel for U.S. military surplus. When the Vietnam War ended in 1975, it transformed into a clothing manufacturer serving the domestic market exclusively. At that time, an officer stationed at a U.S. military base gave it the name “SUGARCANE.”
Although SUGAR CANE was born in Japan, it grew by serving U.S. military bases, and its spirit and craftsmanship know-how are rooted in America. From its early days to the present, it has continued to make authentic workwear centered on denim, a symbol of American style.

Inspired by vintage studded belts that gained popularity alongside cowboy fashion from the 1930s through the 1950s, and are now difficult to find, this original belt was created with a 3.5 mm-thick vegetable-tanned cow saddle leather body known for its strength and durability. With scuffs and age, the natural leather develops a rich honey color, while the black-dyed leather reveals its brown core. The classic stud work, each piece set by hand, is based on vintage designs and features the “SUGAR CANE” brand name. The iron buckle is modeled on a vintage design, made from a custom die, and engraved with a delicate Indian motif. With use, even scratches and scuffs become part of its character, deepening its vintage-like presence alongside the leather and studs.
※ This product is made from genuine leather, so there may be slight variations in texture and color. Marks of the animal’s life may also appear on the leather, such as wrinkles, grain, scars, and vein marks (chi-suji).
※ Please note that friction or exposure to water while wearing may cause fading or color transfer.

A Note from Our Staff
Ichimura / 175 cm / 75 kg
A classic design reminiscent of vintage styles from the 1930s to the 1950s, paired with studs individually hand-set by artisans. This is an exceptionally luxurious belt, meticulously crafted down to the smallest detail.
What I particularly like is that it’s more than a mere accessory; it becomes even more appealing with wear.
The thick saddle leather gradually softens over years of use, and I think even its scratches and scuffs will develop a great character.
Personally, I like wearing it with faded denim and a white T-shirt, letting the belt show just a little.
A little rugged, full of character, and built to last.
It’s certainly not an impulse purchase, but when you consider wearing it for 10 or 20 years, I think it’s worth owning a belt like this.
A superb studded belt that you can wear and make your own over time, just like a favorite piece of clothing.
