STAR OF HOLLYWOOD SH39705 / HOPSACK RAYON OPEN SHIRT “SHRUNKEN HEAD”
A legendary brand that existed in 1950s America, known until a few years ago only to vintage clothing insiders and a handful of core enthusiasts.
While much remains a mystery and the full picture has yet to be uncovered, the brand is defined by designs with such intense impact that they are impossible to forget, as well as fabric and motif colorways composed with extraordinary sensibility.
Based on the masterpieces of the era—works with standout appeal even among 50s vintage—the brand releases original designs worthy of the Star of Hollywood name.
Mid 1950s / Hopsack Rayon / Discharge Print
Star of Hollywood released highly artistic print shirts in the 1950s.
The brand has five globally recognized masterpieces, and this "Shrunken Head" pattern was also released by a brand called SIR GUY.
While the basic design is the same for both, the size and spacing of the motifs, the fabric type, and the printing method differ, with the Star of Hollywood version being the older, original iteration.
When compared to the later SIR GUY version, the Star of Hollywood version features slightly smaller graphics and narrower spacing between motifs.
The print is also discharge-dyed rather than overprinted.
Because so few original Star of Hollywood Shrunken Head shirts exist and it has never even appeared in books, it was considered a phantom item among collectors.
Now, this season, the Shrunken Head, faithfully reproduced by Star of Hollywood based on the vintage original, is finally being released to the world.
The shirt is available in two specifications: a pullover type identical to the original, and an open-collar type.
In addition to the pale purple found in the vintage version, it is also available in vibrant yellow and red colorways.

It has an impactful design and is finished with an incredible atmosphere.
The hopsack fabric, which has a linen-like texture despite being rayon, is also exceptionally well-made.
If you miss out this time, you won't easily find a model like this again.
