STAR OF HOLLYWOOD SH39705 / HOPSACK RAYON OPEN SHIRT “SHRUNKEN HEAD”
A legendary brand that existed in 1950s America, known until a few years ago only to vintage clothing insiders and a handful of hardcore collectors.
While much of the brand remains a mystery and its full history has yet to be uncovered, it is characterized by designs with such intense impact they are unforgettable once seen, as well as color schemes for motifs and fabrics composed with outstanding sensibility.
Based on the masterpieces of that era—works that hold a prominent place even among 50s vintage—we develop original designs that live up to the Star of Hollywood name.
Mid 1950s / Hopsack Rayon / Discharge Print
Star of Hollywood was a brand that brought highly artistic print shirts to the world in the 1950s.
The brand has five globally acclaimed masterpieces, and this “Shrunken Head” pattern was also released by a brand called SIR GUY.
While the basic design is the same for both, they differ in motif size, spacing, fabric type, and printing method, with the Star of Hollywood version being the older, original one.
Compared to the later version made by Sir Guy, the Star of Hollywood version features slightly smaller motifs and tighter spacing.
The print is also a discharge print rather than an overprint.
The Star of Hollywood Shrunken Head is extremely rare and has never even appeared in books, making it a legendary piece among collectors.
Now, this season, the Star of Hollywood Shrunken Head, faithfully reproduced from the vintage original, is finally being released to the world.
The shirt comes in two styles: a pullover type identical to the original, and an open-collar shirt version.
In addition to the pale purple colorway found in the vintage piece, we are also offering vibrant yellow and red options.

The hopsack fabric, which is made of rayon but has a texture like linen, is also exceptionally well-made.
