BUZZ RICKSON'S is a brand founded in 1993 that pursues the history and heritage of flight jackets.
The reproductions are based on the MIL SPEC of the time (standards established to withstand the harsh conditions of military use). From spinning and weaving the yarn to the fabric materials, military components, and overall silhouette, every detail is meticulously considered. Each piece is made with true craftsmanship to recreate the appeal of vintage flight jackets.
This A-2 deck jacket was adopted as the successor to the U.S. Navy’s N-1 deck work jacket. Compared with the previous N-1 model, its color and materials changed: the outer fabric switched from cotton grosgrain to back satin, and the lining from alpaca wool to nylon pile, reflecting a review of productivity and cost. As for the design, it retains the N-1’s basic details, including a button-and-zipper front with a storm flap and ribbed cuffs, while adding a redesigned collar, chest pockets, and hem adjusters. With its simple appearance and essential functionality, this A-2 deck jacket is a utility jacket in the unmistakable style of the U.S. Navy.

Military jackets have a distinctive appeal that you just don't find elsewhere.
My personal favorite is the U.S. Navy deck jacket.
Originally made for soldiers working in harsh conditions at sea, every detail has a purpose. I find a rugged appeal in this functional design that you don't get with today's clothes.
BUZZ RICKSON'S's Type DECK A-2 is another piece that lets you fully enjoy the appeal of military wear.
The A-2 deck jacket was introduced as the successor to the N-1 deck jacket, known as a classic.
The N-1 certainly has a great presence, but personally, I also love the A-2's slightly cleaner design.
I think it's wonderful how practical details like the large collar, front pockets, and ribbed cuffs work so well as design elements in their own right.
And what makes BUZZ RICKSON'S so appealing is how meticulously it recreates the feel of vintage military wear, right down to the materials and construction.
It looks great even when new, but the real fun with a jacket like this comes after you've worn it in.
The fabric gradually develops character, and natural creases form around the sleeves and collar. After years of wear, it slowly takes on a look that's uniquely yours.
Personally, I like wearing it most casually with faded denim and a sweatshirt.
It goes perfectly with roomy chinos or military pants, and I think it would look great even with smart wool trousers.
Also, the A-2 has a relatively simple design for a military jacket, which makes it easy to incorporate into everyday outfits.
I don't think clothes like this are meant to be worn just to keep up with trends.
It'll still look great 10 or 20 years from now, and you'll grow more attached to it the more you wear it.
