You can’t experience its performance without actually wearing it, which may not be the most modern approach, but we hope you’ll try out the high-performance fabric used in outdoor and military settings for yourself.
We used lightweight yet highly insulating Polartec® Thermal Pro fabric for the first time. A mesh lining improves breathability. All BURLAP OUTFITTER Polartec® Thermal Pro series pieces feature this construction.
We reimagined the design and texture of the Chimayo vest, which originated in the Rio Grande Gorge in New Mexico, using Polartec® Thermal Pro fabric. Bold cross patterns appear across the chest and back. The long silhouette has a straight hem, with two pockets at the hem.
It’s certainly different from a Chimayo vest carefully woven one by one by artisans on wooden looms. However, the substantial, thick feel and excellent warmth of Polartec®Thermal Pro, along with its easy machine washability at home, are features the original doesn’t offer, making for an interesting result. (The buttons are plastic, so, like many other BURLAP items, it can be machine washed at home.)
Its excellent warmth makes it useful in a wide range of settings, from everyday life in the city to outdoor activities. Its combination of lightness and warmth is a particular highlight, keeping you comfortable even in winter.

Chimayo vests have long been one of my personal favorite types of clothing.
Its distinctive design draws on traditional textiles from the American Southwest, and it has a classic, warm feel. It pairs exceptionally well with denim and flannel shirts, making it an irresistible piece for fans of American casualwear.
BURLAP OUTFITTER’s PILE CROSS VEST takes the Chimayo vest and gives it an interesting, modern interpretation using contemporary materials.
What I like most of all is this bold cross pattern.
The design across the chest and back stands out, yet still has a calm, understated feel.
The nice thing about a slightly distinctive vest like this is how much it can change the feel of your everyday outfit with just one extra layer.
It’s made with Polartec Thermal Pro.
It has a thick, plush feel, yet it’s lightweight and warm. The mesh lining also helps with breathability.
It’s also great that you can enjoy the look of a traditional Chimayo vest while still being able to wash it easily.
Personally, I really like this kind of combination of classic design and modern functionality.
The silhouette has a roomy fit through the body, and there are pockets at the hem.
It’s also appealing for its relaxed, easy-to-wear balance, which sets it apart from traditional Chimayo vests.
Personally, I’d pair it with faded denim and a flannel shirt for a classic American casual look.
It looks great layered over a sweatshirt or hoodie, and it also works well under a rugged military jacket.
