You can’t experience its performance without wearing and using it, which may seem out of step with the times, but we encourage you to try out the performance of this high-performance material, also used in outdoor and military settings.
We used lightweight yet highly insulating Polartec® Thermal Pro for the first time. The mesh lining improves breathability. This construction is used across the BURLAP OUTFITTER Polartec® Thermal Pro series.
We reimagined the design and texture of the Chimayo vest, which originated in the Rio Grande Gorge in New Mexico, using Polartec® Thermal Pro. Bold cross patterns are placed across the chest and back. The long silhouette has a straight hem, with two pockets at the hem.
It’s certainly different from a Chimayo vest carefully woven piece by piece by artisans on wooden looms, but the substantial thickness and excellent warmth of Polartec® Thermal Pro, along with how easily it can be machine-washed at home, give it an interesting finish with features the original doesn’t have. (The buttons are plastic, so, like many other BURLAP items, it can be washed in a home washing machine.)
Its solid warmth makes it useful for a wide range of settings, from everyday city wear to outdoor activities. Its combination of lightness and warmth is especially appealing, keeping you comfortable even in winter.

Chimayo vests have long been one of my favorite types of clothing.
Its distinctive design, made with traditional textiles from the American Southwest, has a classic, warm feel. It pairs exceptionally well with denim and flannel shirts, making it a must-have for fans of American casualwear.
BURLAP OUTFITTER’s PILE CROSS VEST reimagines the Chimayo vest in an interesting way, using modern materials and interpretation.
What I like most of all is this bold cross pattern.
The design across the chest and back makes a strong statement while still feeling understated.
A distinctive vest like this can really change the feel of your everyday outfit just by adding one layer.
The material used is Polartec Thermal Pro.
It has a thick, plush feel, yet it’s lightweight and warm. The mesh lining also helps with breathability.
It’s nice to be able to enjoy the traditional feel of a Chimayo vest while also being able to wash it easily.
Personally, I really like this kind of combination of classic design and modern functionality.
The silhouette has a roomy width, and there are pockets at the hem.
It’s also appealing for its slightly more relaxed, easy-to-wear balance, which sets it apart from typical Chimayo vests.
Personally, I’d wear it with faded jeans and a flannel shirt for a classic American casual look.
It looks great layered over a sweatshirt or hoodie, and it also works well under a rugged military jacket.
