The body is 8-ounce pique knit. While the ounce weight is significantly heavier than our 2PLY T, the unique gaps in the pique knit structure—like tiny holes—allow air to pass through. That is why polo shirts feel cool.
People often assume a polo shirt is just a T-shirt with a collar, but the sewing process, fabric, and accessories are completely different. The collar and cuffs are knitted on a flat knitting machine. Stretch-preventing tape is applied to the shoulders and collar area.
We use Takase shell buttons. Since the product is garment-dyed, the buttons are attached after dyeing. While these shell buttons generally won't break with normal washing and air-drying, the high temperatures used during garment dyeing and subsequent tumble drying would break them, so they are attached afterward. Because the garment has been tumble-dried to shrink it fully, there is almost no further shrinkage after washing.
