WORKERS' classic T-shirt, evolved from 3-ply to 2-ply. The reason for the change is the thickness and density of the fabric. While the 3-ply offered a beautiful surface, its high density made it too hot for today's intense summer days. By switching to 2-ply, we reduced the weight by about 5% to roughly 5.7 oz. Furthermore, while 3-ply used 80-count yarn tripled (equivalent to 26-count), 2-ply uses 40-count yarn doubled (equivalent to 20-count). In yarn counts, the lower the number, the thicker the thread; therefore, the 2-ply yarn is actually thicker than the 3-ply. Lower weight combined with lower knitting density results in better breathability and a cooler feel. (It’s the same principle as why madras is cooler than poplin, even at the same weight.)
"2-PLY" means "two threads twisted together." A single thread is Z-twisted (left-twist). Two of these are combined with an S-twist (right-twist) to create a single yarn before it goes to the knitting machine. This minimizes "twisting and skewing" for a clean finish. Jersey (T-shirt fabric) knitted with a single thread often suffers from "twisting/skewing," where the fabric leans in the direction of the yarn's twist. To prevent this, the 2-PLY-T twists two threads in the opposite direction of the original yarn twist. In other words:
・Single yarn twist direction (left) vs. ・Two-thread twisting direction (right)
These cancel each other out, suppressing the skew. The secret to the fabric draping straight and looking "clean" when worn lies in this 2-ply, two-thread twist.
The Regular fit has a relaxed silhouette with good airflow, making it cool enough to wear on its own. Both have a length of about 65 cm in size M.
