The brand started as "cable" in the Spring/Summer 2008 season. The brand name was changed to "cableami" in the Spring/Summer 2013 season.

Inspired by traditional Aran cable knit patterns, "ami" carries two meanings: the Japanese word for "knitting" and the French word for "friend."

The name reflects the desire to create products by weaving together various elements like a cable pattern, as well as the wish to make hats that are cherished like a good friend.
