The brand began in the 2008 Spring/Summer season under the name "cable". In the 2013 Spring/Summer season, the brand name was changed to "cableami".

The name comes from the traditional Aran "cable" knit pattern, while "ami" holds two meanings: the Japanese word for knitting and the French word for friend.

The name embodies two core ideas: the desire to create products by weaving together various elements one by one, like a cable knit pattern, and the aim to create hats that are cherished like dear friends.
