FERNAND LEATHER was started in the 1980s by Steve Fernand, initially as a workshop for producing Aurora Shoes in New York, which later evolved into the present-day "FERNAND LEATHER" workshop. Today, they no longer produce Aurora Shoes and operate exclusively as the "FERNAND LEATHER" brand. Every piece is handmade by skilled artisans in their Michigan workshop.

Furthermore, because everything is handmade and production capacity is limited, the brand does not offer wholesale within the United States. The only place to purchase their items is at the store attached to their Michigan workshop. The iPad Latch Pouch is sized to hold an iPad horizontally or an iPad mini vertically. The flap, with its uneven cut extending from the body, is entirely one-of-a-kind; no two are the same. With rare retro clasps and other details, it possesses a commanding presence. The 3mm-thick leather is Chromexcel leather from the Horween tannery in Chicago, which also provides leather to brands like ALDEN. It is exceptionally rich in oil, making it resistant to scratches and rain.
